Tempeh is a fermented soybean that originated in Indonesia. We made our original tempeh with organic chickpeas instead of soybeans. Chickpea tempeh does have a different flavor and texture compared to soybean tempeh. Not only nutty but also creamier and with a distinct flavor and aroma. It is an acquired taste but once you start to like it you can get addicted to it - just like every other fermented foods!

How to cook: You can eat tempeh raw or by boiling it and eating it with miso or soy sauce. It can also be used as a substitute for meat in any meal. It’s easy and fun to cook with tempeh because it absorbs other flavors quickly; plus it’s delicious — with a mild and nutty flavor. When cooking with tempeh, you can crumble it, slice it or cube it. Cooked tempeh can be eaten alone or used in chili, stir frys, soups, salads, sandwiches and stews.

Storage: Tempeh can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 10 days and can be frozen up to 12 months for longer storage. Tempeh can also be dried for longer storage. To dry tempeh, slice and arrange on dehydrator sheets. You may choose to season them as well. Dry until firm or crisp. As with other foods, the more moisture is removed, the longer tempeh will store. Keep in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark location.
